The group

The company was created in 2008 by teacher and choreographer Ghislaine Tétier, and a group of students from Paris-Saclay University. Since 2012, with help from Phillipe Chevallier, the group has performed numerous pieces of repertoire from across the world, including Rien ne laisse présager de l’état de l’eau, by Odile Duboc, Jours étranges, by Dominique Bagouet,  the second movement of Rosas danst Rosas by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Trisha Brown’s Set and Reset/Reset and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Frame(d). The group enjoys reproducing a variety of highly demanding choreographic styles as faithfully as possible. Ghislaine Tétier also creates original works - choreographed walking circuits, featuring vertical dance, circus arts and contemporary dance. Her performances are regularly presented at the Aurillac international street theatre festival. The company De l’Air dans l’art is participating in the Amateur Dance and Repertoire programme for the third time.

The project

Tout autour was created in 2014 by Rachid Ouramdane for the dancers of the Lyon Opera Ballet. This short form piece explores the crowd as a collective body. In a dazzling display evoking a parade or riot, the dancers march, run and spin to the point of overload. Jean-Baptiste Julien’s music is minimalistic, conjuring a simple vision of togetherness. Rachid Ouramdane’s choreography, while abstract, is less minimalistic and more earthy, delving down to the roots of a shared bodily experience. The performers strive to create a dance that is “plural, multicultural, political and poetic.” With the support of Rachid Ouramdane, Agalie Vandamme (dancer for Tout autour and assistant choreographer for Tenir le temps), taught the group Tout autour: a performance where the music moves the body to exhaustion. A hypnotic dance, infused with a feeling of belonging, where those who fall are lifted.

Dancer Laurianne Faure, noted the choreographic score of Tout autour in 2022 as part of her diploma in Benesh Movement Notation at the Paris National Superior Conservatory for Music and Dance (CNSMDP).

Ouramdane, Rachid

Rachid Ouramdane has been creating art projects since 1995.
He was an Associate Artist at the Theâtre de la ville in Paris from 2010 to 2015 and at the Bonlieu from 2005 to 2015 Theater in Annecy, France.

Since Rachid Ouramdane founded L’A dance company, his work has been based on a meticulous collection of evidence, in collaboration with filmmakers or authors.

So he employs the art of dance to contribute to social debates through choreographic pieces that develop a poetics of testimony. In his recent work, he has explored the principles of writing for a big group of dancers.

Alongside his creative projects, Ouramdane is working to enhance learning and exchange through the management of international workshops for artistic research in France, Romania, Netherlands, Brazil, and the United States.
