The element in question, namely “dance” now finds itself on the brink of a crisis that has prevented it from evolving despite its own development. For a long time now, interpreters have walked down the wrong path due to a form of education that has led creative intensity in any direction other than the essential one. The mastery of a discipline such as dance requires far more than the control of one’s own body. The path to freedom of expression is, for us, illogical given the parameters that affect our way of living and looking at reality. What is vital has been forgotten, feelings have been smothered, intuition discouraged. We have worked to learn again to know ourselves, exploit our potentials and succeed in functioning in a complete and honest manner, trying to reconcile the Mental with the Mind, the Body with the Emotions, instinct with intelligence…

Elements that have long been separated and that only acquire meaning once they are in perfect harmony.

He was born in Italy. He began studying classical ballet and modern dance techniques in 1984 at the Centro studi Danza of La Spezia under the direction of Loredana Rovagna. He also pursued studies in the visual arts for three years at the Fine Arts School of Carrara. In 1986, Godani was accepted to further his studies at Maurice Bejart's international dance centre, Mudra in Brussels. Godani made his professional debut in 1988 performing in Le Marietta Secret in Paris. He also performed with Archipel Sud in Namur, Belgium and in the Paris-based company of Jean Francois Duroure. As a dancer he has worked with a range of international choreographers. In 1990, Godani formed his own Brussels based company and began his choreographic career. His work in Brussels was produced by the theatre Atelier Saint'Anne and was supported by the arts festival Brussels Centra(a)l and the Plateau theatre. From 1991 to 2000, Godani has been a leading soloist with William Forsythe's Ballet Frankfurt and has collaborated with Forsythe on the choreographic creation of many of Ballet Frankfurt’s most representative pieces. Godani developed his career as a choreographer creating original works for a vast range of international companies, such as NDT, Cedar Lake, Royal Danish Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Ballet du Rhin, Het National Ballet, Aterballetto, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and many others.

Since acquiring the CCN title in 1999, the Centre Chorégraphique National - Ballet de Lorraine has dedicated itself to supporting contemporary choreographic creation. As of July 2011 the organization is under the general and artistic direction of Petter Jacobsson.
The CCN – Ballet de Lorraine and its company of 26 dancers is one of the most important companies working in Europe, performing contemporary creations while retaining and programming a rich and extensive repertory, spanning our modern history, made up of works by some of our generations most highly regarded choreographers.
The CCN functions as an art center and venue for multiple possibilities in the fields of research, experimentation and artistic creation. It is a platform open to many different disciplines, a space where the many visions of dance of today may meet.
