It makes perfect sense that the choreographer Mickaël Phelippeau should develop a production with local residents, as his interest in meeting people is at the heart of his artistic practice. He enjoys playing with the portrait form (individual or collective) and discovering different worlds is what fuels his creative process. This new production, open to forty local residents aged 17 to 80, will therefore be shaped by the people present over the eight weekends of studio work.

After training in visual arts and dance, Mickaël Phelippeau worked with many choreographers (including Mathilde Monnier, Alain Buffard and Daniel Larrieu), and from 2001 to 2008, with Clubdes5, a collective of dancers and performers. Since 2003, he has focussed mainly on his research on the step Bi-portrait, prétexte à la rencontre (pretext for the meeting). He created the choreographic pieces bi-portrait Jean-Yves (2008) and bi-portrait Yves C. (2009), Round Round Round (2010), Numéro d'objet (2011), Sueños and Chorus (2012).

Since 2010, Mickaël Phelippeau has been director artistic of À domicile residence in Guissény and from, 2011 to 2014, is an associate artist with the Quartz Scène nationale de Brest. From September 2012, he has also been an associate artist with the Théâtre de Brétigny.

A place for dance open to everyone, where people come to see, dance and talk.

The centre chorégraphique national de Caen en Normandie is a space of shared projects that questions the world in which we live, a receptive place where dance is at the heart of an artistic, political and civic-minded vision. It is a centre for the creation, hosting, production and dissemination of choreographic works, a hub that acts as a resource for training and research. It is a place shared with artists, residents, associations and cultural institutions, a place open to artistic creation and the contemporary repertoire.

Awakening curiosity, stimulating the desire for knowledge, opening up to differences, sharing real artistic, intellectual and human experiences – these are the challenges identified by Alban Richard for the centre chorégraphique national de Caen en Normandie.
