Serralves – Museu de Arte Contemporãnea
The Serralves Foundation has adopted the mission of promoting contemporary art and favouring its access to the greatest number of people. With temporary or itinerary exhibitions, shows and concerts, readings and projections, this museum has since 1999 presented a large panorama of contemporary art, from the 1960s up to today’s creations, be they emergent or confirmed. Apart from its collection, bringing together over four thousand pieces, and open to all styles or techniques, it also carries out a vital educational mission (through its symposiums, publishing projects, etc.) and is actively involved in the diffusion of contemporary dance, music and performances in its auditorium and the other spaces in the museum. Set at the heart of the prestigious Casa de Serralves, it thus stands as a meeting point between art, architecture and ideas, thanks to a programme which is as demanding as it is aware of the era’s issues. Its project thus develops a critical reflection in which art is examined through the prism of globalisation and postcolonial thought, guaranteeing its solid anchorage at the heart of modernity. The curator, Cristina Grande, who is in charge of dance and performance in the museum, has also helped to make it one of the most active cultural sites on the Portuguese landscape, when it comes to the contemporary performative arts. With a team of curators, she has set up the annual programme “The Museum as Performance” and developed a platform which, since 2015, has been organising encounters between the visual and live arts.

Roriz, Vítor
Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz are a duo of independent dancers and choreographers. They began collaborating in 2006 on the research and creation of performances that have since been presented in over 17 countries. In their works words, voice, sound and objects become the focus of their research: thus throwing another light on the connection between movement and gesture. In 2011 they've been awarded the Prix Jardin d'Europe for their performance "A gesture that is nothing but a threat" that questions the hierarchy between words and movement. They have been invited to collaborate with different artists such as Catarina Dias, visual artist and long time collaborator, Lara Torres, Marco Martins, Clara Andermatt, Mark Tompkins and since 2014 they've been performing "Antony and Cleopatra" by Tiago Rodrigues and "Sopro" (2017) by the same director. They teach regularly workshops and classes and have been organising residencies and reflection groups for artists in different contexts. They were invited to make the curatorship for the second edition of PACAP - Advanced Program of Creation in Performing Arts, Forum Dança (2018/2019).

Tropa, Francisco
Sculpture has been a permanent interest in the artistic practice of Francisco Tropa, who works since the beginning of the 90s and has gained a significant attention by institutions and the critique. Representing Portugal in the Venice Biennale (2011), he also participated in Istanbul Biennial (2011), Manifesta (2000), Melbourne Biennial (1999) and Bienal de São Paulo (1998).
Several media are used by Tropa – sculpture itself, drawing, performance, photography or film – to convene a series of reflec- tions introduced by the different traditions of sculpture. Subjects such as body, death, nature, landscape, memory, origin or time, are always present in his works, in an endless process of projection of references from the history of art, from other art works, from previous works of the artist, and from specific authors.
Notions of device and spectator are also fundamental to understand his practice, which defies all the traditional categories of art, its representation and perception.
