Birds with skymirrors

Ponifasio, Lemi

Lemi Ponifasio works in theatre and is a choreographer. In 1995, he founded the MAU company, an artists’ collective. A native of Samoa, he is one of the respected chiefs of the islands and a leader of the Maori cause.

Lemi Ponifasio transports to a world where humans, birds, gods, song, animal figures and the spirits of the ancestors all meet; a world where the traditional Maori Haka and contemporary aesthetics blend together, both ritual and minimalist. He created most pieces like « Requiem » (2006), « Tempest: Without a body » (2009), « Birds With Skymirrors » (2010) and « I AM » (2014)
