Directed, Choreographed, performed and edited by: Wren Ball

Music by: Katherine Betteridge

Filming by SSP Media: Osian Williams & Matthew Harris

Special thanks goes to Sally Mees for creating the mask and Ceri Rimmer for making the hood.

Y Chwarelwr (The Quarrymen) was shot in the now abandoned Welsh Quarry of Dinorwic on an a wet and stormy day. The film explores the power of a mask and how the body reacts to a new set of circumstances in an unforgiving landscape. While wearing the mask my perception of reality was altered and a sense of claustrophobia was felt. Movement became animalistic and minimal which in turn brought about a new way of responding to the external space that was not bound by predetermined steps or sequences. During the editing I wanted to further the sense of an alternate reality by introducing dream like sequences and psychedelic imagery.

Ball, Wren

"Im an explorer of movement, taking in  inspiration from the environment around me. In my short films I use  Freerunning Breaking and Contact Improvisation as tools for my  investigation. I have been performing professionally for the last 6  years and look forward to future collaborations.Im  an explorer of movement, taking in inspiration from the environment  around me. Meeting with literature

Collaboration between a choreographer and a writer can lead to the emergence of a large number of combinations. If sometimes the choreographer creates his dance around the work of an author, the writer can also choose dance as the subject of his text.
