Workshop of Matthew Hawkins for the students of the CNDC (1998)
Matthew Hawkins will be a very popular teacher at the National Center for Contemporary Dance during all the years when Marie-France Delieuvin will be its educational director (under the direction of the establishment by Joëlle Bouvier and Régis Obadia), from 1991 to 2003. Matthew Hawkins is a pure product of the very classic British Royal Ballet. After which, we found him in more updated options, alongside Michaël Clarke for example, where he willingly developed a tone of very British fantasy – not to be confused, however, with any radical contemporary conception of the body, of movement or writing. His courses and workshops reveal a clarity of very structuring lines, always imbued with a classic demonstrative spirit, at the same time free from any renewal of a rigorous codification.
