When two dancers are asked to partner at an audition each struggle with the flip sides of homophobia before finding common footing. Set in a Victorian ballroom overlooking the San Francisco skyline, the dancers take a journey through genres of partner dancing, addressing homophobia and effeminophobia. Rooted in hustle, the dancers move through its various influences such as mambo and lindy-hop while integrating elements of contemporary hip-hop. During this duet, they develop a relationship, breakthrough societal norms, and come to terms with platonic intimacy.  

As a spirit of light, love, and joy, Abdiel champions freedom as an  ever-changing process inspiring and encouraging others to find the spark  within and connect to their own inherent divinity as a pathway to self  liberation.

As an artist whose primary expressive medium is  dance, Abdiel uses movement to access the wordless place of play where  embodied practice acts as a vital, transformational force for healing  and connection.

As a queer genderfluid person of color, Abdiel is  committed to providing platforms for other underrepresented people to  share their work and tell their stories.

As an advocate, Abdiel  curates safe spaces that model social equity and demand the same from  the broader world, while building lasting relationships between people  of all walks of life.

Created in 1985 by the City of Cannes, the Cannes - Côte d'Azur France Dance Festival is undoubtedly one of the largest international festivals. The creation of this Festival is part of a historic relationship between the City of Cannes and the world of Dance, thanks in particular to the dynamic generated by the opening of the Rosella Hightower International Dance Center in 1961. Since 1993, to the rhythm of a biennial, the event has found its identity, relying on numerous creations presenting new talents from the choreographic scene and the work of major international companies. With MOV’IN Cannes, the festival celebrates the meeting of contemporary dance and the 7th Art and highlights this magnificent relationship by launching an international dance film competition under the artistic direction of Didier Deschamps and Éric Oberdorff.
