Ashes

Born of the desire to continue creating despite the Covid health crisis, the Barbarians project is a video fresco in several chapters.

in several chapters.

The term ‘barbarians’ was used in ancient civilisations to designate ‘those who do not belong’. The project paints a portrait of difference and identity through exclusion, in a variety of forms.

Each of these short dance films is set to a brand new score composed and performed by Romain R.B.

Barbarians deals with difference through education, demands, excess and disillusionment.

Because everyone is confronted with exclusion at some point in their lives, Barbarians aims to ask the audience how the group looks at the individual, and to break down the judgement surrounding marginality.

ASHES

Ashes is the finale of the Barbarians series. The video evokes rebirth from the ashes, like the phoenix. It is also a moment of reconnecting with the ground, that is, with what carries us, what is real and solid. It's a video about unity and verticality. The character is multiplied and the ensemble of dancers represents what it is: a unified whole, aligned, moving without resistance and capable of facing difficulties and trials, as when it is moving in the middle of a storm.

The lyrics deal with the loss of control, the uncertainty of tomorrow and with that the necessity of the present moment. The middle slam

resonates like the voice of a father, an inner dialogue that balances the desire to change the world, to free it from injunctions, but also the need to live in the present moment.

injunctions, but also the inability to change it oneself.

So it's a saving apocalypse that allows the character to stand on the strength of his experience, ready for a

ready for renewal.

Rachline-Borgeaud, Romain

After training at the Pôle National Supérieur de Danse Rosella Hightower and Alvin Ailey, Romain Rachline Borgeaud performed in New York with the 360° Dance Company and in several musicals across the country (Singin' In the Rain, Cats, A Chorus Line, Hairspray, etc.).

Alongside his dance career, he is a musician and composes for short films.

In 2014, he returned to France to perform at Mogador in Le Bal Des Vampires, then Singin' In The Rain and 42nd Street at the Théâtre du Châtelet.

In 2016, he choreographed the opening ceremony of the Champs-Elysées Film Festival. That same year, he also founded the ESPAS Danse teaching structure.

His career as a dancer and musician converged with the show À Cuba Libre, for which he was composer, lyricist and choreographer.

In 2018, he founded the RB Dance Company, which performs in France and abroad, and takes part in various TV shows and festivals. In 2019, RB will present the show Stories, for which Romain is the author, director, choreographer and composer.

He is also a choreographer for Disneyland Paris and is collaborating with Ladislas Chollat on the creation of the musical Molière, for which he is responsible for the choreography.

Romain is currently preparing a new creation with the RB Dance Company.

RB Dance company

Founded in 2018 by Romain Rachline Borgeaud, RB Dance Company is a dance company combining urban jazz, tap and percussion.

After being a finalist in the TV show ‘La France a un Incroyable Talent’ that same year, the company expanded in France and internationally, performing at private and public events (Grand Bal de Versailles, All Star Game - Bercy, Riyadh Festival, etc). The company is also continuing to make inroads on television, taking part in the programmes Danse avec les Stars (TF1), La Bataille du Jury (M6) and Miss France (TF1).

In 2019, the RB Dance Company gave birth to its first show, ‘Stories’, which saw the light of day in autumn 2019 and embarked on a tour of France after several dates at the Casino de Paris. In the following seasons, the show will play at the Théâtre Mogador and the 13e Art.
