En bonus et pour finir dans la fraicheur la saison 1 du Corps de la Ville, voici un épisode réalisé par Nicolas Habas avec les filles et les plus jeunes danseurs du Collectif Ultimatum, sous le regard complice et amusé de Kader Attou.

Le compositeur de la musique originale n’est autre que Bruno « Patchworks » Hovart, compositeur, arrangeur et producteur de nombreux artistes, dont les désormais célèbres Voilaaa.

Kader Attou is a dancer and choreographer from the company Accrorap. Athina, in 1994, marked the beginnings of the company set up with Mourad Merzouki, Eric Mezino and Chaouki Saïd, in Lyon. This show is a success that manages to transpose hip hop dance from the streets to the stage. Alone, he then created Prière pour un fou (1999) to renew the dialogue that the Algerian tragedy made improbable.
Douar (2004), conceived within the framework of the year of Algeria in France, questions the problems of the exile of young people from the districts of France and Algeria. Petites histoire.com (2008) recounts popular France based on burlesque sketches. In 2008, Kader Attou was appointed director of the National Choreographic Center of La Rochelle, thus becoming the first hip hop choreographer to head an institution. In 2018, he reunited with his early partner, Mourad Merzouki, with whom he created Danser Casa for the Montpellier Danse Festival. In 2019, he resumed a version for the street of The Roots with the dancers of the N.I.D. Epsedanse by Anne-Marie Porras for the Montpellier Dance Festival. Since 2022, he has settled in the Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille.

Nicolas Habas comes from cinema first, as a screenwriter and director of several short fiction films including Le mal de Claire, broadcast on French TV and documentaries (La parole en chantier, triptych on a popular neighborhood in urban renewal). He is very interested in the tensions between reality and the imaginary, society and intimacy, geography and territories. With a self-taught apprenticeship that led him to a deep understanding of the codes of the film industry, he decided to find «his» cinema and returned with Le Corps de la Ville, the web series anchored in dance, to his first loves, since he made his first dance video in 1998. Shot during the 30° Eurockéennes de Belfort Festival and Broadcast on Arte Concert, Mouvements is its second web series.

En 1973, les RIAC (Rencontres Internationales d’Art Contemporain), un festival pluridisciplinaire de musique, cinéma, danse, théâtre, arts plastiques, débats, sont créées à Royan puis, dès l’année suivante, elles s’installent à La Rochelle. Déjà, le cinéma rencontre un vif succès.

En 1980, seul le volet cinéma est maintenu et le Festival de La Rochelle débute son existence autonome, dirigé par Jean-Loup Passek, critique de cinéma, qui deviendra aussi responsable du cinéma au Centre Georges Pompidou : « Nous avons toujours pensé et nous le pensons encore qu’un palmarès est un jeu de hasards entre des films trop différents les uns des autres pour être comparés et jugés avec équité. Il n’y a pas de compétition à La Rochelle. L’important pour nous c’est l’esprit de curiosité, l’important pour nous c’est d’aller explorer dans tous les pays du monde. »

En 1987, les RIAC deviennent le Festival International du Film de La Rochelle, qui sera dirigé jusqu’en 2001 par Jean-Loup Passek.
Côté programmation, le festival a toujours été un pont entre la mémoire du cinéma et son actualité, ou même son avenir, en programmant très tôt de jeunes auteurs comme Volker Schlöndorff dès 1975 ou Nanni Moretti en 1977.

En 2002, Prune Engler, fidèle collaboratrice de Jean-Loup Passek depuis 1977, prend la direction du Festival, aux côtés de Sylvie Pras (dans l’équipe depuis 1986). Leur projet est de maintenir l’esprit du Festival, son âme et son indépendance. Au début des années 2000, le festival se développe considérablement tant du côté de sa programmation, avec la création de diverses sections (« Découverte », « D’hier à aujourd’hui », « Musique et cinéma », etc.) que de l’accueil des professionnels et des actions menées toute l’année à La Rochelle.

En 2018, Arnaud Dumatin et Sophie Mirouze, présents dans l’équipe depuis 2001 et 2003, reprennent à leur tour la direction et changent le nom du Festival, qui revient à ses origines en devenant le Festival La Rochelle Cinéma (Fema).

Aujourd’hui, le Fema La Rochelle reste non-compétitif et se veut une grande fête du cinéma, au début de l’été, avec un public nombreux et fidèle, et des films d’hier et d’aujourd’hui venus du monde entier.
En 2019, lors de sa 47e édition, 164 longs métrages et 41 courts métrages, de 38 pays différents, ont été présentés au cours de 352 séances.

Parallèlement au Festival qui est le cœur de son activité, le Fema La Rochelle élargit toute l’année le champ de ses missions : activités pédagogiques à destination de tous les publics, accompagnement d’artistes.
Développant de multiples collaborations, le festival contribue à la sensibilisation des jeunes spectateurs et offre un accès privilégié aux pratiques cinématographiques à travers différents dispositifs, s’adressant aussi bien aux étudiants en cinéma les plus naturellement concernés qu’à celles et ceux qui sont souvent éloignés de la culture. Il accueille chaque année plusieurs réalisateurs en résidence pour des projets de courts métrages écrits et tournés dans l’agglomération rochelaise et au-delà.

In this documentary serial, each place consists of an original choreographic proposal, created and filmed in situ, in its natural sound environment. A work that requires a rigorous filming device, in which I am looking for a bridge where choreographic and cinematographic creation could enlighten each other. Also, I am in a permanent creative bond with the choreographers to transcribe with them the intentions of the proposed dance, in view of its environment.

The first step is upstream of the shooting, and consists in finding the location of the shooting with the dancer. It is not a question of investing space arbitrarily, but of integrating the dancer’s personal and living experience into telling it. The choice also derives from the visual and choreographic cinematographic potential and its historical and sociological significance.

The second stage is that of writing, the result of a collaboration between the body of the dancer, the camera, and the chosen space.

The work begins on the basis of a concerted improvisation. It is a question of letting oneself be grasped by the sensations to which the chosen place sends us: the colors, the matter of the floors, the circulation of light and the flow of individuals are as many materials likely to nourish and frame the writing. The hand rests on a wall, the foot slides on gravel, a body tastes the freshness of the shade under a tree... And already a story is woven between a body and a moving gaze, which will result in a rigorous technical cutting, in which the movements of the choreography are written according to certain camera axes.

This meticulous writing allows us to concentrate, at the time of filming, on the excellence of the choreographic gesture, and the quality of natural light. Like an actor, the dancer perfects his gestures, while I play with the shadows and contrasts created by the evolution of natural lighting.

Meeting point between a place and a body, between the choreographic and cinematographic creation of the documentary, in direct connection with the history of a territory, its inhabitants and its users, Le corps de la ville, wishes above all to make the poetry of dance accessible to all.
