Catching someone red-handed requires the presence of at least two protagonists. The person or persons who commit the reprehensible act, and the person or persons who observe them.
Performance spaces, urban spaces? With 'FLAG', Yann Lheureux pursues his line of work in examining the links between identity and territory.
Unrivalled performers, emblematic of their respective urban sports and practices (hip-hop, BMX and parkour) follow after one another through solo performance. They appear in all their strength and virtuosity while exposing their fragility and sensitivity. Separated and brought together by the same issues, the impact of these three successive pieces are made to resonate.
They fly the flag not for their nation or their new family, but for the unwavering freedom they wield. Through their sport and their status as free agents, they attempt to break down geographical borders by recreating families across them.
Examining urban sports and their territory, these three soloists are transposable inside and outside, thus questioning the need for the theatrical fluctuation between two representative contexts, as determined by the environment and the relationship with the audience.
Lheureux, Yann
After imposing himself on the street hip-hop dance scene in the 80’s, Yann Lheureux received the “1st international solo prize” (Turin and Béthune) in 1987 and 1988 during the “Rencontres Chorégraphiques” organised by the Fédération française de danse. From 1990, he worked with companies directed by Didier Théron, Philippe Saire and Hervé Diasnas… until 1994, when he created his own company.
His nomadic childhood existence, between sub-Saharan Africa, Germany and France led him to intuitively develop his artistic research into the links between identity and place. These questionings intensified from 2003, when the Company took up residence in the Atelier, in the centre of Montpellier. The issues of rootedness, of belonging, of fleeing, and of integration in a place, became the cornerstones of his artistic researches. Yann Lheureux experimented, in show after show, with questions about ‘here’ and ‘elsewhere’. He made numerous pieces, performed in France as well as abroad, in theatres and urban spaces, where dance meets other forms of writing, other media, and other approaches (video, multi-media, urban arts…).
Starting with « Flagrant délit » (created in 2012) and in projects through till 2017, Yann Lheureux is depicting the intimacy of the human being through a series of portraits. This work was initiated by « FLAG » (created in 2012-2014), and will continue using women (The Rare Birds, created in 2015-2017). The project consists of choreographic sequences based on notions of force, achievement and fragility. It explores how to reveal and show these facets of identity on stage and in the public arena.
The two projects in development, « Gravity.0 » (2016) and « Red Circle » (2017), mark a transition from the intimate human figure to that of the group. They demand new forms of dramaturgy wherein Yann Lheureux will explore innovative relationships between the artists and the audience.
Yann Lheureux has a diploma in Body Mind Centering (Amberst / USA), and has led a diversity of pedagogical projects: workshops subsidised by AFDAS, dancer training for various national centres of choreography, international teaching programmes (United States, Tunisia, South Korea…).

Riolon, Luc
After studies of mathematics preparatory class and medecine studies, Luc Riolon begins to make films within the framework of his Faculty of Medicine, then met the famous choreographers of the 80s (Maguy Marin, Mark Tompkins, Josef Nadj, Daniel Larrieu Daniel, Odile Duboc, Josette Baiz, Angelin Prljocaj, etc.) with whom he shoots numerous films (re-creation for the camera, the illegal securements). In the 80s with the American choreographer Mark Tompkins he introduces the video on the stage, broadcasting live on big screens the images which he shoots with his camera by being on the stage with the dancers, mixing live images and pre-recorded images. With Daniel Larrieu he participates in the creation of the famous show WATERPROOF, the contemporary choreography which takes place in a swimming pool, by filming live) the dancers dancing in the water and mixing the live images with pre-recorded underwater images. This choreography has been shown in many countries (USA, Canada, Spain, England…)
Then he collaborates during 10 years with the famous french TV producer Eve Ruggieri for her programs" Musics in the heart ". He shoots with her of numerous documentaries about classical music, opera singers and dance. From 1999 he directs documentaries of scientific popularization, by following researchers attached to the resolution of a particular ecologic enigma. These two artistic and scientific domains which can seem separated are nevertheless, for Luc Riolon, connected by the same approach : the deep desire to understand the world, by the art or by the scientific research, and to restore it to the largest number. Among his recent scientific documentaries, we can quote for example " The Enigma of the Black Caiman ", Living and dying in the swamp " or " The Nile delta: The end of the miracle ". “Chernobyl, a natural history ? “ These documentaries of scientific popularization recently have been awarded in international festivals.

Meeting with literature
Collaboration between a choreographer and a writer can lead to the emergence of a large number of combinations. If sometimes the choreographer creates his dance around the work of an author, the writer can also choose dance as the subject of his text.
