Following Holeulone and Humus vertebra, Karine Ponties continues bonding with the singular gaze of an illustrator, although this time the artist wasn’t directly involved in the creative process.
The starting point for this piece is the extravagant universe of illustrator Beatrice Alemagna, chisel-like stories where the body is always abused, even broken. From the first, surging line, five figures come to life, escape their own fiction, falling from the page onto the ground. Five characters in search of themselves, inadequate, breaching reality, attempting to put themselves back together, to gather themselves.
“A profound gesture, determined and solid, that endlessly peels away layers of movement and the reasons to make them. Karine Ponties’s choreographies reject gratuitous aesthetics and heighten often bizarre stories without coloring them too heavily. (…) Certainly an expedition to be undertaken refuting all the clichés.”
