Hammadi, Raza

Classically trained by Andrej Glegolski, in the moderns by Urico, Raza Hammadi followed the teaching of Matt Mattox from 1976 on and joined his workshop in 1980, where he became artistic director of Ballet JazzArt in 1983. He has since been very active teaching in France and abroad. He is notable for being the first professor of jazz dance invited by Maurice Béjart to his school in Brussels.

In addition to his work with JazzArt, since 1990 he has directed or covered work for foreign companies: Budapest Opera in Hungary, the Carte Blanche company in Norway, Gothenburg Opera Ballet in Sweden, National Theatre in Tunis... Believing that jazz dance is a synthesis of different expressions, Raza HAMMADI’s style is a fine and coherent mix of different choreographic techniques and languages, tempered by thought from a jazz crucible. He thus renews meaning and continuously stimulates shapes in a choreographic alchemy that blends the rhythm with emotion. This spirit of openness and artistic research can be seen in the encounters he elicits with external choreographers and teachers for his company, whose work has travelled throughout Europe to the Orient.
