Gerro, Minos and Him

Choreography and performance : Aloun Marchal, Roger Sala Reyner, Simon Tanguy

On the stage of Gerro, Minos and Him, Aloun Marchal, Roger Sala Reyner and Simon Tanguy, all bare legged, channel all of that – and a little bit more. Which is handy: “à trois”, the possibilities are even more outlandish. Their bodies can do just about anything: to begin with, shi!ing between states without warning, from one imaginary space to another, then returning suddenly to the stage, stark naked. Together, or not, but each in his own space, each in the middle, each in his own system, like the distant cousins of a Cunningham mainlining on burlesque. “This constant changing of fictional spaces is the heart of the piece. It leaves the audience confused, trying to understand where the dancer is, how he got there, and what makes him move.” The rules of the game? None apply, yet they all do. Just as long as there’s burlesque, flippancy, tension, frontality and – why not – danger. “The way we work is based partly on disputes during decision-making, which are inherent to any collaboration, and partly on the dynamic created by saying ‘yes’ to every suggestion made in the studio. It’s what we call ‘anarchy-democracy’.” On stage the trio veers between shouting, wrestling, kabuki love scenes, tribal chants, and even dance. A state of extremes. “It’s because each person is "ghting for their own interests that the collaboration has such density, and an authentic rapport can emerge.” Even if the dice are loaded, for hidden within the trio is the choreographer – a fact which, with a de! touch and small acts of cruelty, he enjoys pointing out.

Sala Reyner, Roger

Roger Sala Reyner (1981, Spain) studied choreography at the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam.

Before moving to Holland, he finished a BA in physical theatre at the Institut del Teatre de Terrassa, in Barcelone. He has engaged as performer in works by Meg Stuart (VIOLET, Atelier) and collaborated as a dancer with Steve Paxton, Jeanine Durning and Martin Nachbar.

His own work, created in the frame of the SNDO, has been shown in Holland, Belgium and Spain. He is actually involved in the collective project John the Houseband, a nomadic performative amateur music band.

He’s interested in the theme of « Journey », for the performer and the audience, as a travel from introspection to the expression of sensations and inconscious. He’d like to explore the differents states of consciousnesss connected with shamanism, extases and alchimie.

Tanguy, Simon

Simon Tanguy is a choreographer and dancer based in Rennes. Since the age of 18 he has been creating his own shows in a youth circus company that performs both in the streets and traditional circus-environments. In 2005, after ten years of practising judo, he obtained a philosophy degree in Rennes. Having taken up contemporary dance, he enrolled at the Samovar School in Paris, training in physical theatre and clowning, and developing his ideas around burlesque, buffoonery and grotesque performance. In 2011, he graduated from the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam.

Simon Tanguy explores motion intensity, extreme emotional states, and the shifting musicality of an alert body. He adds to contemporary dance an energetic background that derives from theatre and transposes into the former the wildness and openness of clowning. His pieces do always features a flow (bodies, qualities, words) to which the performer has to surrender. Passing through this multiplicity of states, Simon Tanguy reflects on the unpredictable velocity in which we are living.

Simon Tanguy has worked both as a dancer and performer for international choreographers: Boris Charmatz, Maud Le Pladec, Deborah Hay, Ame Henderson. His solo « Japan » received the ITS Choreography Award 2011. The trio Gerro, Minos and Him – conceived in collaboration with Aloun Marchal and Roger Sala Reyner – received both the 2nd Prize Danse Elargie at the Théâtre de la Ville-Paris in 2010, and the City of Stuttgart's Dance and Theater Price in 2013.

In 2013 Simon Tanguy founded the company Propagande C in Saint-Brieuc. So far 3 pieces have been produced by the company. Simon Tanguy collaborates frequently with the Musée de la Danse, with the choreographers Marzena Krzeminska, Élisa Le Merrer and with others partners from the department of Côtes d'Armor.

Marchal, Aloun

Aloun Marchal is an improviser, dancer and choreographer. French artist living in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Paris, France. He receives the Danceweb grant in 2008 and 2012. In 2010, he is awarded the second prize of the Dance competition, “Danse Elargie” that took place in théatre de la ville, for the creation of “Gerro, Minos and Him” in collaboration with Roger Sala Reyner and Simon Tanguy. In 2013, “Gerro, Minos and Him” is awarded the best dance piece award at the Stuttgarter Tanz-und Teaterpreis festival. He is currently touring two of his creations : “Gerro, Minos and Him” and “Trippel”. As a performer, Aloun is touring “More than naked”, a massively naked show choreographed by the Austrian artist Doris Uhlich and the last show of the integrated dance company SPINN. Aloun decided to start dancing when he understood that thinking wasn’t enough. He felt that it was kind of the same as taking the objects drawn on a map for the objects themselves.

Since then he is fascinated by moments that don’t make sense yet, but eventually will.

Plasson, Fabien

Born in 1977, Fabien Plasson is a video director specialized in the field of performing arts (dance , music, etc).

During his studies at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (joined in 1995) Fabien discovered video art. He was trained by various video artists (Joel Bartoloméo Pascal Nottoli , Eric Duyckaerts , etc).
He first experimented with the creation of installations and cinematic objects.

From 2001 to 2011, he was in charge of Ginger & Fred video Bar’s programming at La Maison de la Danse in Lyon. He discovered the choreographic field and the importance of this medium in the dissemination, mediation and pedagogical approach to dance alongside Charles Picq, who was a brilliant video director and the director of the video department at that time.

Today, Fabien Plasson is the video director at La Maison de la Danse and in charge of the video section of Numeridanse.tv, an online international  video library, and continues his creative activities, making videos of concerts, performances and also creating video sets for live performances.
